Air India is preparing to introduce in-flight Wi-Fi services, allowing passengers to stay connected during their journey. Soon, travelers on Air India flights will be able to browse social media, send emails, and perform other tasks requiring internet access. The first aircraft to offer this service will be the A350, operating on the Delhi to London Heathrow route.
On September 2, Air India announced that it has started flights between Delhi and London Heathrow using the A350-900. The airline described this as part of an “ambitious transformation journey” and noted that the route will operate twice daily.
Introducing Air India’s A350 Aircraft
Air India’s A350 aircraft features 28 private suites in the business class, equipped with full-flat beds, offering a luxurious experience for passengers. Additionally, the aircraft includes 24 seats in both premium economy and economy classes. The Tata Group-owned airline began adding Airbus A350 aircraft to its fleet earlier this year.
While several airlines already provide in-flight Wi-Fi, the trend is expected to continue growing to meet increasing passenger demand for connectivity.
How In-Flight Wi-Fi Services Works
In-flight Wi-Fi generally operates through two methods: air-to-ground and satellite technology. The air-to-ground method functions similarly to mobile internet, with ground-based cell towers sending signals to planes.
Satellite Wi-Fi, on the other hand, uses antennas mounted on the aircraft that receive signals from satellites, providing internet access for passengers. This newer technology is becoming more widespread among airlines.
Airlines Offering In-Flight Wi-Fi
Many airlines now offer in-flight Wi-Fi, including JetBlue, Norwegian Air, Philippine Airlines, Air New Zealand, China Eastern Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, and Lufthansa. This service enhances connectivity and comfort, keeping passengers connected throughout their flights.
