Chamarajanagar in Karnataka Gears Up for New Tiger Safari Zone
Quick Destination Logistics
A significant transformation is on the horizon for the tourism landscape in the Old Mysore region, promising an economic boost for the area. According to recent reports, Karnataka is set to unveil an ambitious plan to establish a new tiger safari zone in the southernmost district of Chamarajanagar.
This initiative is inspired by the success of renowned reserves like Nagarhole and Bandipur. The proposed safari is expected to cover an extensive 18 km, beginning from Lokkanahalli in the PG Palya Range within the Male Mahadeshwara Hills (MM Hills) wildlife division.

Visitors on the safari will traverse through dense and imposing jungles, offering not only a chance to witness diverse wildlife but also an exploration of intriguing remnants of Stone Age structures.
Scheduled to commence in the first week of December, the safari will debut with a single vehicle during a two-month exploration phase. Santhosh Kumar G, deputy conservator of forest for MM Hills Wildlife Division, highlighted the strategic location of the route along the elephant corridor, making it a prime spot for encounters with wild elephants.
The route promises sightings of tigers, spotted and sambar deer, leopards, Indian guar, Indian hare, and various bird species. Noteworthy Stone Age structures, including burial grounds and an anti-poaching camp, add historical significance to the journey.
This initiative aims to contribute to the establishment of a dedicated Kollegal tourist circuit, facilitating convenient exploration in a single day. The safari point strategically aligns with popular tourist destinations such as the Dhondenling Tibetan camp, Bharachukki Falls, and Gundal Dam.
Local tourism stakeholders are optimistic about the transformative impact of this new safari, foreseeing increased tourist activities in and around Kollegal.
With its unique combination of rich biodiversity, historical remnants, and proximity to existing attractions, the Chamarajanagar tiger safari holds promise as a valuable addition to the region's expanding tourism offerings. It is poised to attract wildlife enthusiasts and history buffs alike, providing a fresh allure to the ever-growing tourism landscape.
