Republic Day Travel Advisory: Key Updates on Traffic
Quick Destination Logistics
As Republic Day approaches, Delhi is gearing up for grand celebrations, and with it comes a set of Republic Day travel restrictions to ensure smooth operations and security. These include changes in flight schedules, traffic movement, and metro operations.
The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which manages over 1,300 flights daily, has announced temporary flight suspensions between January 19 and 29. No flights will operate between 10:20 AM and 12:45 PM during this period. Non-scheduled and chartered flights face stricter restrictions from January 19 to 25, with no operations permitted between 10 AM and 1:15 PM. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has revised its Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), extending the restrictions to both scheduled and chartered flights. However, these restrictions do not apply to Indian Air Force (IAF) operations, Border Security Force (BSF), Army aviation helicopters, or state-owned aircraft carrying Governors or Chief Ministers.

Republic Day Travel Delhi Metro, and Flight Restrictions
On the ground, traffic restrictions are in place across key areas of the city. Routes such as Kartavya Path-Rafi Marg Crossing, Kartavya Path-Janpath Crossing, Kartavya Path-Mansingh Road Crossing, and Kartavya Path-C Hexagon will be inaccessible from 10:15 AM to 12:30 PM on specific days. Additionally, the stretch of Kartavya Path between India Gate and Vijay Chowk will remain closed during rehearsals and on Republic Day itself. Commuters are advised to check real-time updates and plan alternative routes to avoid delays.
The Delhi Metro is also expected to witness a surge in passengers, particularly at stations near the Republic Day venues. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has urged passengers to plan their journeys well in advance to avoid long queues and overcrowding.
This year, the 75th Republic Day Travel celebrations at Kartavya Path promise to be a spectacular affair. The festivities will include the ceremonial arrival of the President, the hoisting of the national flag, and a 21-gun salute. French President Emmanuel Macron will be the chief guest, adding an international dimension to the celebrations.
As preparations continue, Delhiites are encouraged to stay informed and plan their travel to navigate the city smoothly during this festive and momentous occasion.
