Thailand's Phuket Streamlines Tourist Visa Extensions

Phuket, a highly popular tourist destination in Thailand, especially favored by Indian travelers, has recently implemented a simplified visa process for foreigners through the introduction of an online visa extension system. Immigration Bureau Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Itthiphon Itthisanronnachai revealed that foreigners residing in Phuket under any of the 12 specified visa types can now utilize an online platform to apply for tourist visa extensions.

This initiative is part of Lt Gen Itthiphon's broader mission to streamline the operations of the Immigration Bureau and enhance the experience for tourists, particularly during the approaching New Year holidays. The primary goal is to make the immigration process more efficient and easily accessible.

As a significant tourist destination in the upper southern region, Phuket has been a focal point for the government. Policies facilitating movement, such as visa waivers for tourists from China and India traveling to Thailand, have already been successfully implemented, as reflected in tourist statistics.

Tourist Visa Extensions with an Online System

In December, Phuket Airport witnessed a notable influx of tourists, with an impressive daily average of 3,600 arrivals from Russia. Following closely were visitors from China, the United Kingdom, and India, with daily averages of 1,500, 780, and 720, respectively. The projected total tourist inflow through the airport for the month is an impressive 350,000.

The newly introduced online visa extension system, named 'E-Extension,' aims to simplify the extension process for the 12 specified visa categories. Tourists can now submit documents and schedule appointments online, subsequently receiving a physical stamp to extend their visas, as reported.

The E-Extension Visa Service is currently operational at Immigration Bureau 1 in Bangkok and Immigration Offices in prominent locations like Chonburi, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. The Phuket Immigration website has not yet officially disclosed specific details about the E-Extension service for foreigners.
