Dhaskud Nest Promotes Rural Tourism Through Local Culture and Nature in Sirpur

Dhaskud Nest, a rural tourism and hospitality initiative established in 2024 by Jitendra Kumar Sahu, is highlighting the potential of rural tourism in Sirpur by bringing together local culture, natural surroundings and traditional practices.

Sirpur is widely known for its ancient temples, Buddhist monasteries and historical significance along the Mahanadi River. Dhaskud Nest aims to complement the region’s heritage tourism by offering visitors a glimpse into rural life, traditional food practices and the area's natural environment.

The property incorporates locally sourced materials, including bricks from the Mahasamund region and black stone from the Mahanadi for flooring. It also features natural ventilation, open spaces and solar-powered water pumps. Traditional dona-pattal, or leaf-based plates and bowls, are used for serving food.

The initiative's vision includes creating opportunities for local youth to develop practical skills while recognising the knowledge and experience of senior citizens. Experiences such as Van Bhoj, or outdoor dining, and cultural activities aim to connect visitors with local traditions and nature.

The nearby Baskuda Craft Village also highlights the importance of traditional bamboo craftsmanship and rural livelihoods. Such local skills and cultural practices offer opportunities to develop tourism experiences rooted in the region's identity.

Rural tourism can complement visits to historical destinations by connecting travellers with local food, crafts, traditions and communities.
