Dept. of Tourism and IRCTC Join Forces for the Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra Yojana in FY 2023-24

In a momentous collaboration, the Department of Tourism has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to execute the Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra Yojana during the fiscal year 2023-24. The MoU signing ceremony, graced by distinguished dignitaries, included Ms. Kranti P Sawarkar, Joint General Manager of IRCTC, and Shri Sachin R. Jadhav, Director of Odisha Tourism.

Significantly, the ‘Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra Yojana’ breathed new life with the launch of a special train journey from Bhubaneswar to Prayagraj and Varanasi in January 2023.Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, via video conference, presided over the departure ceremony, extending heartfelt wishes to the older travelers and emphasizing the significance of a joyful and secure pilgrimage.

This program had been on hold for over two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this year marks its resurgence, with the government’s commitment to send 7,000 baristha nagarik on a spiritually enriching pilgrimage. Chief Minister Patnaik encouraged the pilgrims to seek the divine blessings of Lord Vishwanath for the well-being of their families, friends, and the people of Odisha.

Under this program, the State Government will generously cover expenses related to travel fares, accommodations, meals, healthcare, and various other essential facilities, ensuring a seamless and unforgettable journey for the participants.
