Dharoi Dam in Gujarat to Become a Sustainable Tourism Hub

The Dharoi Dam area in northern Gujarat is set to be transformed into a premier sustainable tourism destination, aiming to boost the state’s tourism. This ambitious initiative by the state government plans to turn Dharoi Dam into a central hub, connecting key sites such as Vadnagar, Taranga, Ambaji, and Rani Ki Vav, all within a 90 km radius. The development, estimated at INR 1100 crore and planned in three phases, will reshape the region’s tourism landscape.

The comprehensive development plan for Dharoi Dam includes the creation of an Adventure Water Sports Arena, an innovative River Edge Development Leisure Show Infrastructure featuring an amphitheater, and several themed parks like Panchatatva Park and Naad Brahm Upavan. Additionally, a Visitor Centre and a Water Experience Park are part of the proposal, aiming to enrich the visitor experience and offer diverse recreational activities.

Hasrat Jasmine, the District Development Officer of Mehsana, emphasized the project’s long-term vision to position North Gujarat as a significant tourism circuit, with Dharoi as its focal point. Surrounding pilgrimage sites like Ambaji, Hatkeshwar Temple, and Vadnagar will serve as complementary attractions, enhancing the area’s appeal. Jasmine anticipates that this initiative will not only boost local revenue but also establish Dharoi as a cultural and tourism epicenter.

The Sustainable Tourism Hub

The project is on track to reach its final phase within two years, with 80 percent of land acquisition already completed. A Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model is under consideration to accelerate the development process and ensure its successful execution.

The local and tourist communities are already buzzing with excitement about the new facilities. Tejinderpal Singh, a tourist from Gandhinagar, remarked, “The development will surpass even the Statue of Unity in scale and grandeur. With world-class amenities, including seaplanes, and its proximity to attractions like Ambaji and Khedbrahma, the area will attract a large influx of tourists.”

Local residents are equally optimistic about the project’s impact. Nareshbhai, the village head of Dharoi, expressed enthusiasm about the positive changes, stating, “This project will put our village on the map and create job opportunities for our people. It’s a significant development that will boost our local economy and become a prominent tourist destination.”

Focusing on spiritual, adventure, and eco-tourism, the Dharoi Dam area will become a major economic engine for North Gujarat, creating new employment opportunities and significantly boosting regional tourism.
