Rajasthan Achieves Milestone with Over 100 Million Tourists in September

The state of Rajasthan is riding a wave of success in its tourism sector, attracting a significant number of visitors, both from within the country and around the world. According to the latest data released by the Rajasthan Tourism Department, the state welcomed over 100 million tourists in September 2023, cementing its status as a prominent tourism destination on both the national and international stages.

An official from the tourism department has expressed that this surge in tourist arrivals not only signifies the remarkable recovery of the state’s tourism industry from the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic but also surpasses all expectations. Recent statistics from Rajasthan Tourism reveal a remarkable leap from the eleventh to the seventh position in the rankings of popular tourist destinations, both within India and globally.

Sumita Saroch, the Joint Director of Marketing at the Rajasthan Tourism Department, attributes this success to a range of strategic measures employed by the state.

One key strategy involved extensive airport branding efforts, showcasing Rajasthan’s attractions at 289 locations across 18 major airports in India, including cities like Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and others. The primary aim was to boost domestic tourism and attract visitors from all corners of the country.

To support these efforts, the tourism ministry allocated INR 23.59 crore for the development of tourism facilities in Nathdwara, including the establishment of a tourism interpretation and cultural center. Additionally, several railway projects have been approved, fortifying rail infrastructure in the region and promoting tourism to Rajasthan’s historic sites.

Rajasthan Tourism also harnessed the potential of metro systems in major cities like Kolkata, Lucknow, Chennai, and Hyderabad, strategically implementing branding initiatives within these urban transit networks. The department expanded its presence on popular double-decker train routes, including Ahmedabad-Mumbai, Jaipur-Delhi, Bengaluru-Hubbali Jan Shatabdi, and Shatabdi Secunderabad-Pune.

An extensive advertising campaign was executed, with LCD and LED screens featuring Rajasthan tourism advertisements at 1,433 locations across 20 stations throughout the country. Additionally, promotional films were showcased on approximately 1,000 screens in multiplexes and cinema halls across 24 major cities nationwide.

Rajasthan Tourism’s social media presence also experienced significant growth, with active engagement on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, and YouTube. The department’s promotional films, “Romance of Rajasthan” and “Lage Kuch Apna Sa,” gained popularity after being featured on Instagram, accumulating 7 million and 5.7 million views, respectively.

In the past month alone, Rajasthan Tourism’s official Instagram account garnered 13.6 million impressions, while Facebook received 6 million impressions, and YouTube witnessed 3.5 million impressions and 227,000 views.
