New FASTag Rules Effective from Today
Starting today, August 1, a series of new regulations regarding FASTag usage will come into effect, requiring users to update their accounts to avoid potential inconveniences at toll plazas. These changes aim to streamline toll collection, reduce congestion, and enhance efficiency on national highways.
One significant change involves the Know Your Customer (KYC) process. Starting August 1, users must replace FASTag accounts that are five years old or older. Check the issuance date of your FASTag account and seek a replacement from your issuing authority, as old accounts will become invalid. Additionally, accounts that are at least three years old will need to renew their KYC details by October 31. Failure to comply with the new KYC requirements could result in the redlisting of the FASTag accounts.
FASTag – Key Changes and Guidelines
Another notable change includes the mandatory linking of the FASTag account to the vehicle’s registration number, chassis number, and the owner’s phone number. This update aims to curb the misuse of FASTags, preventing multiple vehicles from using the same account. Starting from April, it became mandatory to use one FASTag account per vehicle. Additionally, users must upload photos of the vehicle’s front and side to complete the linking process. For those purchasing new vehicles from August 1 onward, the registration number must be updated within three months of purchase.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) recently announced updated guidelines mandating that vehicles must pay double the standard toll amount if they do not have FASTags affixed to their windshields. This directive is part of a broader initiative to encourage the widespread adoption of FASTags, aimed at streamlining toll collection processes, reducing waiting times, and minimizing traffic congestion at toll plazas. The government will implement these new guidelines across all toll plazas on national highways throughout India, reinforcing the push towards a more seamless and digitized transportation infrastructure.
