Malaysia Joins Visa-Free Initiative for Indian Travelers

In a welcome development for Indian travelers, Malaysia has joined the growing list of countries offering visa-free entry. The Malaysian Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, recently announced that Indian and Chinese citizens can now enjoy visa-free entry to Malaysia starting from December 1.

Under this new arrangement, Indian travelers can stay in Malaysia for up to 30 days without the need for a visa. However, it’s important to note that security screenings for Indian nationals will continue as a standard procedure.

Previously, Indian visitors had the option of obtaining a Malaysian tourist e-visa at a cost of INR 3,799 per person. The decision to go visa-free is aimed at boosting tourism from India and China, recognizing the significance of these markets for Malaysia. The country is also keen on attracting more investors from these nations.

The simplified entry process is expected to enhance the travel experience for visitors, promoting Malaysia as a premier tourist destination in Asia. This move follows similar initiatives by countries like Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Thailand, which also recently allowed visa-free entry for Indians. Notably, Sri Lanka and Thailand have extended this provision until March 31 and May 10, 2024, respectively.

It’s important to clarify that visa-free travel means there is no need for visa-on-arrival or e-visa. Travelers can simply book their flight tickets, pack their bags, and embark on their journey without any paperwork. This development opens up opportunities for Indians to explore 30 countries, including Malaysia, without the hassle of obtaining a visa.
