Noida International Airport : Landmark Achievement with First Successful Landing

Noida International Airport made history by successfully achieving its first aircraft landing on its runway. At 1:31 PM, an Indigo A320 flight, departing from Delhi, landed at Noida Airport. The aircraft reached the airport’s flying zone in 10 minutes and circled for about an hour and a half to allow for checks of the equipment and resources. With this historic landing, this nearly 25-year-old project has achieved a major milestone.

Key Features of the Noida International Airport

The airport boasts a 3,900-meter long and 60-meter wide runway, which is now fully operational. Markings and lighting have been completed on the runway. In addition, the airport is equipped with CAT-I and CAT-III instruments, which will assist aircraft in safe landings and takeoffs, even in dense fog.

The Instrument Landing System (ILS) has already been installed at the airport. This system was tested in October 2023 using a Beech King Air 360ER aircraft. The first phase of the airport is being developed on 1,334 hectares of land, with an initial passenger capacity of 12 million per year.

The Noida Airport will be expanded in four phases. By 2050, it is expected to handle 70 million passengers annually, making it one of the busiest airports in North India.

Significant Achievements

ILS calibration was completed in October 2023.
A successful trial run was conducted on the runway on December 9.
Flight trial approval was granted by the DGCA.
Commercial flight operations are planned to begin in April 2025.
Ticket booking services will commence in February 2025.
Record-breaking Construction

The Jewar Airport has set a new benchmark by starting trial runs in just three years, two months, and 11 days after construction began. Typically, airport projects are delayed for years, but Noida Airport has reached this milestone at a remarkable pace.

A 23-Year Dream Fulfilled

The proposal for Noida International Airport was first made in 2001. However, due to political delays and other issues, the project only moved beyond theoretical approval much later. In 2017, the UP government prioritized the project, and now this dream is becoming a reality.

Safe Operations in Dense Fog and Darkness

The CAT-I and CAT-III equipment at the airport make it fully operational even in dense fog and low-visibility weather. With this technology, Noida Airport will ensure the safety of passengers and will stand as one of the most technologically advanced airports in the country.

The airport will apply for an Aerodrome License this month. The AIP (Airport Publication) will be issued on February 6, 2025, and flight bookings will begin soon after. Commercial flights are set to begin in April 2025, providing a new dimension to air travel for Noida and surrounding areas.
