Char Dham Yatra Preparations Resume in Kedarnath After Snowfall Disruption

After weeks of disruption caused by heavy and unexpected snowfall, preparations for the Char Dham Yatra have picked up pace again in Kedarnath. Improved weather conditions have allowed authorities to restart stalled work and push ahead with arrangements for the upcoming pilgrimage season.

The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee confirmed that activities, which were earlier put on hold due to extreme weather, have now resumed on priority. Ground teams are working at full speed to ensure all essential infrastructure and services are ready before pilgrims begin arriving in large numbers.

Temple opening dates announced
The opening of temple doors marks the formal start of the yatra. This year, the Kedarnath Temple will open on 22 April 2026, followed by the Badrinath Temple on 23 April 2026. Both temples remain closed during winter due to extreme Himalayan conditions, making their reopening a significant moment for devotees.

Char Dham Yatra – Weather disruption and recovery efforts
Unusually heavy snowfall in the Kedarnath region had disrupted transport, delayed supply chains, and halted construction work. This raised concerns about meeting preparation timelines. However, with weather conditions improving, authorities have moved quickly to recover lost time and resume operations.

Teams from various departments are working in coordination to restore connectivity, complete infrastructure upgrades, and ensure basic facilities are in place.

Char Dham Yatra – Government steps up monitoring
The Government of Uttarakhand has intensified oversight of the preparations. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently reviewed progress in a meeting with district officials, stressing the importance of safety, smooth logistics, and coordination among departments.

The focus remains on managing the expected surge of pilgrims by strengthening transport systems, accommodation facilities, and emergency response mechanisms.

Focus on safety and infrastructure
Given the high-altitude and remote terrain, authorities are prioritizing essential services such as temporary camps, medical facilities, and emergency support systems. Repair and strengthening of core infrastructure remain the immediate priority to ensure safe movement of pilgrims.

Impact on travel plans
Despite the earlier weather-related setbacks, preparations are now back on track. For pilgrims planning to undertake the Char Dham Yatra this year, the renewed pace of work signals that authorities are aiming to meet timelines and ensure a safe and well-organized pilgrimage experience.
