Himachal Pradesh to Launch ‘Dehra Utsav’ to Boost Tourism and Celebrate Local Culture
Himachal Pradesh, renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, is gearing up to host a major festival called ‘Dehra Utsav’ at the end of 2024. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced this during his recent visit to the Dehra Assembly Constituency, marking a significant initiative aimed at promoting tourism and showcasing the state’s vibrant cultural identity.
The ‘Dehra Utsav’ is poised to be a grand celebration, designed to highlight the unique local culture of the region. The festival will feature traditional art, music, dance, and crafts that are integral to Himachal Pradesh’s cultural fabric. This event will provide a platform for local artisans and performers to display their talents, fostering a deeper appreciation for the region’s cultural diversity. The festival will spotlight these traditions, attracting both domestic and international tourists, substantially boosting the state’s tourism sector and contributing to the local economy.
During his visit, Chief Minister Sukhu also reviewed various development initiatives and scouted potential locations for new government offices in Dehra. He directed the district administration to identify suitable land for constructing a new office for the Superintendent of Police and other essential facilities, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in the region.

The Chief Minister took the opportunity to inspect ongoing construction projects, including a fire station, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, a hospital, a sericulture office, and Government Senior Secondary Schools. His interactions with students during the visit emphasized the importance of staying informed about current events and developments in the state, aligning with broader efforts to improve educational standards and general knowledge among young people.
Additionally, the Chief Minister instructed the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board to conduct a survey addressing electricity concerns in Dehra. Upcoming projects like the Central University Campus and an international-level zoo will increase demand for reliable power supply, making it especially crucial to ensure availability. The survey will aid in planning and upgrading the existing infrastructure to meet these needs.
In a further bid to enhance local infrastructure, the Chief Minister announced plans to construct new bus stands at Khundiyan in Jawalamukhi and Dadasiba in the Jaswan Pragpur area, aimed at improving commuter services and facilitating tourist travel. Dehra is building an integrated sports stadium to promote youth participation in sports. The stadium will serve as a community hub and help combat drug abuse among the younger population.
The ‘Dehra Utsav’ will become a significant event on Himachal Pradesh’s cultural calendar, enhancing the region’s appeal as a prime tourist destination. As the festival gains momentum, it will attract more visitors, further solidifying Himachal Pradesh’s reputation as a cultural and tourism hub.
