Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Set to Open Soon

The much-anticipated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, a milestone in India’s infrastructure development, is nearing completion. This state-of-the-art expressway, spanning 210 kilometers, will dramatically reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from the current 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) expects the project to be completed by January 2025, promising a significant boost to connectivity for commuters and tourists alike.

Travel Time Slashed to 2.5 Hours

Part of the ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative aimed at transforming India’s road network, the expressway will enhance the movement of goods and passengers across key regions. The expressway will pass through major towns such as Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur, and is designed as an access-controlled motorway with six to twelve lanes. It will feature advanced safety measures and modern amenities, including rest stops every 25-30 kilometers.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project is divided into four phases:

Phase 1: A 32-kilometer stretch from Akshardham Temple in Delhi to Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, is already operational.
2: Spanning 118 kilometers from Baghpat to Saharanpur, this is the longest section, with several segments already accessible to the public.
Phase 3: Covering over 40 kilometers, this phase connects Saharanpur to Ganeshpur.
4: A 20-kilometer stretch links Rajaji National Park to Dehradun, featuring a 12-kilometer elevated wildlife corridor and a 340-meter tunnel to safeguard local wildlife.
The expressway’s cutting-edge infrastructure includes over 110 underpasses, five rail overbridges, four major bridges, and 16 entry and exit points to ensure seamless connectivity. Travelers can expect a speed limit of 100 km/h, ensuring both safety and efficiency.

The implementation of a distance-based toll system will begin with the first 18 kilometers from Akshardham to Loni being toll-free, ensuring a hassle-free start to the journey. Although exact costs have not been disclosed, the expressway is poised to boost regional trade and tourism, driving economic growth and development across the region.
