The Fake Google Hotel Listing That Led to a Costly Mistake

Shreya Mitra, a content creator, recently shared her unfortunate experience while trying to book a stay at Mayfair Heritage Puri for Holi. Like many travelers, she searched for the hotel on Google and clicked on the first result that appeared, assuming it was legitimate.

After finding a contact number on the listing, she called the supposed hotel representative, who provided room details and photos to appear authentic. Convinced by the professional communication, she transferred INR 93,600 to confirm her booking. She even received an invoice, but when she asked for an official email confirmation, she was told the system was down.

The next day, the scammers called again, instructing her to open Google Pay, click ‘Pay,’ and enter a booking ID for confirmation. Finding this suspicious, Shreya refused and insisted on an official email. Realizing they were exposed, the fraudsters immediately cut the call.

When she contacted the actual Mayfair Heritage Puri, she discovered that the listing she used was fake—and her money was gone.
