Thailand Extends Visa-Free Entry for Indians Until May 2024

Good news for Indian travelers! Starting from November 10, 2023, Indians can now explore the wonders of Thailand without the need for a visa, and this privilege extends until May 31, 2024. The Thai Tourism authority has decided to waive the visa requirement, allowing Indian citizens to stay in the country for up to 30 days. In September, Thailand had already taken a similar step for Chinese nationals.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian tourists have become the focus of attention for numerous countries’ tourism boards. This year, India has secured its position as Thailand’s fourth-largest source market for tourism, trailing only Malaysia, China, and South Korea, with approximately 1.2 million Indian visitors.

Allowing 30-Day Stay

Indian government data reveals a continuous growth in the number of Indians traveling abroad, rising from 14 million in 2011 to a peak of 27 million in 2019. Despite two years of pandemic-induced travel restrictions and border closures, the number rebounded to 21 million in 2022.

According to statistics from the Union Tourism Ministry, the top ten destination countries for Indian travelers in the past year were as follows (figures rounded): UAE (28% with nearly 5.9 million visitors), Saudi Arabia (11.5% with 2.4 million visitors), USA (8% with 1.7 million visitors), Singapore (4.7% with 990,000 visitors), Thailand (4.4% with 930,000 visitors), UK (4.3% with 920,000 visitors), Qatar (4.1% with 870,000 visitors), Kuwait (3.9% with 830,000 visitors), Canada (3.6% with 770,000 visitors), and Oman (3.4% with 720,000 visitors).
