Leh-Manali National Highway Reopens After Winter Closure

The 428-km Leh-Manali National Highway has been reopened for vehicular movement, marking a significant development after nearly five months of closure due to heavy snowfall during the winter season. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) successfully cleared the highway, ensuring connectivity between Ladakh and the rest of the country via Himachal Pradesh.

Officials confirmed that the closure, which began in November with the onset of winter, has now been lifted following extensive snow clearance operations conducted by the BRO. Teams from the 111 Road Construction Company (RCC) and the 753 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) under Project HIMANK in Ladakh, along with counterparts under Project Deepak in Himachal Pradesh, collaborated to clear the highway.

The operation, carried out under challenging conditions, involved clearing four major mountain passes and required coordinated efforts from skilled personnel and advanced machinery. Despite the harsh weather and heavy snowstorms, the teams’ dedication ensured the successful reopening of this vital transportation route.

The Leh-Manali National Highway holds immense significance for connectivity, tourism, military operations, and economic development. Serving as a crucial link between Ladakh and the rest of the country, it facilitates the transportation of goods and supplies, supports tourism, and contributes to the economic growth of the region.
