Explore the Natural Wonders of Bhoramdev Sanctuary
If you’re a nature enthusiast eager to experience the wildlife and verdant landscapes of the forests, join us on a journey to Chhattisgarh’s renowned Bhoramdev Sanctuary. Situated 120 km from Raipur, in the Kawardha district, this sanctuary is nestled amidst the Maikal mountain range and the picturesque Chilfi Valley. Nearby attractions such as Bhoramdev Temple, Sarodha Dadar Reservoir, Ranidahra Waterfall, Peethaghaat Watchtower, and the archaeological site of Pachrahi will leave you spellbound.
Spanning 352 square km, Bhoramdev Wildlife Sanctuary is a haven for diverse wildlife, birds, and rare plant species including peacocks, kingfishers, bison, chital, and nilgai. However, a unique highlight is its butterfly park, covering seven acres.
The Allure of Butterflies
Visitors from around the globe are drawn to the butterfly park, where the fascinating Orange Oakleaf butterfly steals the show. With wings closed, it resembles a dry leaf, but once open, its striking black, orange, and dark blue colors captivate everyone. Jungle safaris in Jamun Pani and Pratapgarh offer thrilling wildlife sightings.
Bhoramdev Temple Complex: A Glimpse into History
Located 18 km from Kawardha, the Bhoramdev Sanctuary and Temple Complex comprises four ancient Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, often referred to as the Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh. The intricate carvings of Mandwa Palace, Cherki Palace, and other temples are a must-see.
In 1349, builders constructed Madwa Palace, also known as Dulhadev, to commemorate the marriage of Nagavanshi King Ramchandra Dev and Princess Ambika Devi. The complex features outer walls adorned with 54 poses depicted in the Kama Sutra, and a temple enshrines a half-sculpted Shivalinga. The temple roof boasts lotus-shaped carvings.
Discover Sarodha Dadar and Chilfi Valley
Chilfi Valley lies 50 km from the district headquarters, on the border of Madhya Pradesh. In Sarodha Dadar village, an ethnic Baiga resort spans 11 acres atop a hill, offering wooden and deluxe accommodations.
Domestic and international tourists flock to Chilfi Valley and Sarodha-Dadar year-round to immerse themselves in nature. A watchtower near Sarodha-Dadar and Peedaghat provides breathtaking views of the mountains and valley. Baiga tribals predominantly inhabit the area, and their traditional lifestyle and culture significantly draw visitors. Trekking and camping are popular activities here.
The Enchanting Reservoirs and Waterfalls
Visitors can enjoy speed boating, water scooters, and camping at the Sarodha reservoir, surrounded by lush green hills. The Maikal mountain range offers stunning views, and the Chhirpani reservoir’s panoramic vistas are equally captivating. The Ranidahra, Durduri, and Mandaghat waterfalls, nestled within dense forests, are also worth exploring.
Ranidahra Waterfall, about 35 km from Kawardha on the Bodla to Chilfi road, is especially beautiful in the monsoon month of Saavan. Water cascades from a height of approximately 40 feet, and the cool mountain breezes offer a refreshing respite to visitors.
How to Get There and Where to Stay
Kawardha is easily accessible from Raipur Airport, Raipur, and Jagdalpur Railway Stations. Non-stop AC buses operate from Raipur to Kawardha, 120 km away. Affordable accommodations are available near the sanctuary and in the city, including the Sarodha Dadar resort. For bookings at Sarodha Resort, contact the Tourism Board at 7714224999 or 9111007964.
Kawardha Forest Division Officer Shashi Kumar mentioned that they have divided the sanctuary area into core and buffer zones, with the Chilfi Valley in the buffer zone housing several Baiga tribal villages. A butterfly camp will be organized in the sanctuary by the end of August, and jungle safaris are expected to commence in November.
